An image crop plan can match a target ratio while excluding an important region. Use fictional dimensions and supplied rectangles to save centered crop bounds, margin and area controls, and content-preservation questions without editing a real image.

What does an image crop plan preserve and what does it exclude?

An image crop plan records which part of a supplied rectangular image area would remain inside a stipulated centred frame. It is a designer-handoff note for a small shop, not an actual photo edit. The original dimensions and named product and label regions are fictional numerical inputs. No real object was detected or image generated.

A pixel is a small addressable element used to express digital image dimensions. The exercise assumes square pixels. Aspect ratio compares width with height; four to three means four units of width for every three of height. The 4:3 ratio is supplied by this teaching contract, not described as a current social-network specification.

Write the rules: “V1; original dimensions in pixels; target 4:3; centred axis-aligned crop; no resizing, stretching, rotation, added background or resampling; only supplied region bounds assessed.” Resampling changes the pixel grid. This worksheet simply chooses a rectangle inside the original grid and traces excluded margins without pretending to operate an editing application.

Before applying the image SEO preparation guide, preserve the difference between visible content and technical file delivery. This card does not calculate compressed bytes, select a format or establish indexing, rights, legibility or composition. A correct geometric ratio is not approval to publish a creative asset.

Fix the coordinate convention before using supplied regions

The source area is 1800 pixels wide and 1200 high. Use the upper-left boundary as origin (0,0), with X increasing rightwards and Y increasing downwards. Write bounds in the order left, top, right, bottom. These numbers describe boundary lines, not pixel-centre indices.

The interval notation [80,200,600,900) includes the area starting at the left and top boundaries and ends before the region beyond the right and bottom boundaries. Its width is 600−80=520 pixels and height 900−200=700. Do not add one. This half-open convention is stipulated for the worksheet rather than assumed to match every editor’s coordinate display.

The fictional product region is [80,200,600,900), while the label region is [300,100,1500,180). These are supplied rectangles, not a segmentation result produced from an actual photograph. Preserve their names and values rather than guessing the location of a real logo or package.

FieldSupplied value
Original width × height1800 × 1200 px
Target ratio4:3
product[80,200,600,900)
label[300,100,1500,180)

Keep this source as V1. A statement that a product appears in the picture does not provide its exact bounds. If important-region data is absent, ask which region must survive wholly and what confirmed coordinates describe it. The crop dimensions can be known while the content-preservation question remains unanswered.

The creative-brief workflow can help make constraints explicit before a visual is produced. No generated background or real photograph is created here. A replacement file with different dimensions needs a new source version; do not transplant these coordinates into it and retain the old approval label.

Find the largest centred four-to-three rectangle without scaling

The original height is 1200. A 4:3 rectangle using that full height has width 1200×4/3=1600. This fits within the source width 1800. A taller 4:3 rectangle would exceed the available height, so 1600×1200 is the largest permitted rectangle under this integer-boundary contract. No enlargement is required.

The horizontal difference is 1800−1600=200 pixels. Centring divides that equally: 100 from the left and 100 from the right. Top and bottom exclusions are zero. Both leftovers are even in this example, so there is no half-pixel placement or rounding decision to invent.

The crop bounds are [100,0,1700,1200). Check 1700−100=1600 and 1200−0=1200. Every crop boundary lies within the source. Retained area is 1600×1200=1920000 pixels, compared with the original 1800×1200=2160000. The excluded area is 240000.

Verify through the margins as well: two strips of 100×1200 account for 240000 pixels. Retained plus excluded equals the original area. This is a count of pixel area, not file size in bytes. Colour encoding, compression and export settings have not been supplied and are not inferred.

CalculationResult
Retained width × height1600 × 1200 px
Crop bounds[100,0,1700,1200)
Left / top / right / bottom100, 0, 100, 0 px
Retained pixel count1920000
Excluded pixel count240000

A different source might require an odd leftover margin or a different placement rule. Do not extrapolate a universal half-pixel rounding convention from these deliberately even inputs. Adding a background, rotating the source or stretching it to fill a frame would be a new task rather than the same crop calculation.

Trace the intersection before calling a region preserved

The product’s left boundary is 80, outside the crop’s left boundary 100. A strip twenty pixels wide is excluded. The other boundaries being acceptable does not make the whole rectangle survive. The centred proposal therefore fails the supplied product-preservation condition even though its aspect ratio is correct.

The retained product intersection is [100,200,600,900). Its width is 500 and height 700, giving 350000 pixels of area. The original product rectangle has 520×700=364000, so 14000 pixels of its stipulated area are excluded. This does not measure how much of a real product’s meaning or identifying detail is visible.

Translate to the cropped coordinate system by subtracting 100 from X and zero from Y. The retained intersection becomes [0,200,500,900). Translating the complete original rectangle would leave a left coordinate of −20, which records the overhang. The label is wholly inside and moves to [200,100,1400,180). Its 96000-pixel area remains intact.

label[300,100,1500,180)[200,100,1400,180)960000Wholly retained

Decide three claims with evidence. Reject “a correct 4:3 ratio preserves all content,” citing the product boundary. Reject “centring always keeps the important region,” citing the twenty-pixel overhang. Mark “an in-bounds label is legible” unsupported: neither actual lettering nor final display scale was inspected.

The alt-text review should later use what is actually visible in the real asset, not a description invented from this numerical card. Wholly in bounds is a geometric decision, not confirmation of visual usefulness, composition or publication rights.

Keep missing region bounds separate from completed geometry

In V2, only the 1800×1200 dimensions and 4:3 target are supplied. Product bounds are missing. The crop rectangle can still be calculated, but preservation of the product remains unresolved. Completing one numerical stage does not complete the content review.

Ask the source owner to identify the important regions and confirm their boundaries. If the original width or height is also absent, do not substitute another file’s dimensions. Resolve the origin, boundary convention and units before comparing coordinates. Pixel values from one version cannot establish what remains visible in another version.

Microsoft’s retained guidance distinguishes margin cropping from making a picture larger or smaller and discusses aspect-ratio crops. It also warns that cropped areas may remain in underlying files. This planning note establishes no deletion, redaction or privacy guarantee. No actual editing, export or file inspection has occurred.

The visual-workflow migration note can help preserve an asset brief if its tool changes. A new composition or alternative crop would still require its own assessment. This worksheet neither approves that alternative nor evaluates a real image. Keep the numerical evidence, the unresolved source question and the human visual review as separate items.

Save one crop-boundary note and reopen the named file

On Windows, open Start, type Notepad and launch the editor. Create a new blank document headed “Centre crop V1.” Copy the original dimensions, stipulated ratio, coordinate convention and both supplied region rectangles. Add crop size, four margins and the kept/excluded area control.

For product and label, retain original bounds, intersection, translated intersection, remaining area, lost area and the whole-region decision. Add all three claim decisions with their evidence and the V2 source-owner question. Write: “No real image was edited; no visual, privacy or publishing approval was performed.”

Press Ctrl+S, choose Documents, enter centre-crop-V1.txt as the file name and select Save. Close the editor. Open Documents in File Explorer and double-click centre-crop-V1.txt to reopen the named file. Check the left crop boundary 100, product loss 20 pixels of width and 14000 of area, plus the unresolved V2 region question.

A suggested fifteen-minute allowance gives three minutes to source scope, five to geometry, four to region decisions and three to saving and reopening. This is a cognitive plan, not a measured user trial. In earlier public writing about perfection and effectiveness, I described delaying work over details. Here the application is finishing a checkable note rather than claiming a design result. The artificial intelligence guide supplies broader context, but no model execution is required for this manual check.

Frequently asked questions

Does a correct 4:3 crop guarantee the product remains whole?

No. The supplied product rectangle extends twenty pixels beyond the crop’s left boundary. Correct ratio does not establish whole-region preservation.

Does this plan stretch the original image?

No. There is no scaling or resampling. It selects a 1600×1200 rectangle within the original 1800×1200 pixel area.

May I assume a missing important region is centred?

No. Preservation remains unresolved until the source owner provides confirmed bounds for the important region.

Does excluding a region prove its data was deleted from the file?

No. This is conditional visible-area arithmetic only. No editing, export, deletion or privacy investigation was performed.
