1. Set up a small study workspace
AI, short for artificial intelligence, can help organize your reading. You still need to understand and check the result. Pick a small topic today, such as the difference between fixed and variable costs.
- Source: choose a short assigned reading or a few pages you have permission to use.
- AI tool: Google's Notebook tool can answer questions using uploaded sources and provide citations. It can still make mistakes, and account access can vary. See [Google's official guide](https://support.google.com/gemininotebook/answer/16164461).
- Note storage: use an existing document or a paper notebook. Keep the same layout for each topic.
- Naming: use “Course_Topic_Date”. Add the source title and page numbers before writing the summary.
2. Make a note you can explain
Read the material first and mark anything unclear. Copy this template into your notes. Ask the assistant for a draft, then rewrite the key explanation in your own words.

Paste this instruction: “Draft a short study note using only the material provided and the template above. Point to the source passage for each main claim. Do not invent page numbers or fill gaps with guesses. Explain unfamiliar terms simply. Leave the personal explanation, example and reflection fields for me.”
Try applying the idea to a campus coffee stand. In a simple example, monthly rent is a fixed cost and the cup used for each sale is a variable cost. Check whether your example fits the definitions in the reading.
3. Turn the note into a weekly routine
Retrieval practice means trying to recall an answer before checking your notes. Use it to test understanding instead of judging progress by how familiar a summary looks.
- Today: check definitions, figures and formulas against the reading. Correct the draft and write your own short explanation.
- Ask the assistant: “Create five questions from this source: two explanation questions, two application questions and one comparison. Ask one at a time. Wait for my answer before revealing yours. Then identify what I missed using the source.”
- Close your notes and answer. Verify the assistant's feedback too. Mark each response as confident, partial or stuck.
- Tomorrow: retry the partial and stuck questions. Turn any remaining confusion into a specific question for your tutor.
- At the end of the week: answer all five again and invent a fresh example. Carry unresolved gaps into next week's review.

What if the AI answer conflicts with my reading?
Put the conflicting claim beside the original passage. Ask the assistant to explain the mismatch, then inspect the evidence yourself. Mark the point as unresolved and take it to your tutor if needed.
Can I submit the AI-generated note as coursework?
Check the assignment's AI policy first. Use this workflow for studying, and write assessed work yourself under the course rules. Cite your sources and disclose AI assistance where required.
Do I need to upload everything?
No. Start with a small, relevant extract you are allowed to share. Remove personal details. If file uploads are unavailable, paste a permitted passage with its source title and location.
