Target audience guide
A fill-in method to define exactly who you sell to: segment, needs, decision map and message testing.
Who is this for
Owners and marketers who have a product but waste ad budget saying “it's for everyone”.
What you'll get
- Pick 1–2 precise customer segments
- Write the customer's real need in one sentence
- Aim the message at the right audience
Narrow the segment
“Everyone” is not an audience. List a few concrete groups, then pick the one that pays most and is easiest to reach.
- Split existing customers into groups.
- Note each group's spending power and frequency.
- Focus on one or two groups.
Write the need as one sentence
Formula: “[who] wants [what outcome] [at what moment] because [reason]”. Example: “A small cafe owner wants to be visible on social media in the evening because competitors are outrunning them.”
FAQ
What if I have several audiences?
Pick one to start. Nailing one segment beats half-serving five.
