When is ChatGPT the more logical choice?

If part of your day is editing text, then searching the web for current information, uploading spreadsheets and preparing visuals, looking at ChatGPT first makes sense. OpenAI's official ChatGPT FAQ says the service supports text, file and image analysis, web search, image creation and voice. The limits of a specific feature vary by plan and selected model.

ChatGPT Search makes current information findable with source links and is available in the main plans, including Free. This makes the "show sources" instruction easier. But opening the link, checking the date and confirming the claim really appears on that page is still the user's job.

Jobs that suit ChatGPT

• Running research, planning, drafting and editing on one topic in the same conversation.
• Uploading PDFs, spreadsheets and images and asking specific questions.
• Preparing social media visuals or simple illustrations alongside text.
• Turning a voice conversation into a written plan.

ChatGPT's advantage is sometimes less the answer itself than the work staying in one place. The reverse also holds: in a very long, unrelated conversation, earlier context can pull a new answer in the wrong direction. Opening a new chat for a new topic is a small but effective habit.

When is Gemini the more logical choice?

If your workday is built around Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Calendar and Search, Gemini's difference shows less in the standalone app than in those connections. Google's Gemini usage guide explains working with text and files, exporting answers to Google Docs and, on eligible accounts, drawing on other services through Connected Apps.

Gemini Deep Research builds a search plan, investigates web sources and prepares a report. According to Google's Deep Research documentation, Google Search is the default source; with the right account and permissions, Gmail, Drive, uploaded files and NotebookLM can also join the research. Free users have access, but limits are lower than on paid plans.

Take an ordinary job. You need to find the question a customer sent in Gmail, read the latest proposal in Drive, prepare the reply and export it to Docs. Gemini can reduce the data you carry by hand between apps in that chain. If you work with documents outside the Google ecosystem, that difference shrinks considerably.

It looks convenient. But can you see which email, which Drive file and which dated version entered the answer? Connect only the apps needed for a task, open the sources used, and check that an old file is not being presented as a new decision.

When is Claude the more logical choice?

If you want to read a long report, find the differences between two texts, edit while preserving tone and receive the result as a file, trial Claude separately. Anthropic's current plan page shows the free plan covering writing and editing, web search, file and code creation, data visualisation, memory and connectors. Higher usage and some working modes are tied to paid plans.

Claude can create DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and PDF inside the browser. According to the official file-creation documentation, this capability is open to all users, with a 30 MB limit applying to files created in one conversation. That figure should not be confused with upload and account limits.

Jobs that suit Claude

• Reading a long document section by section and extracting contradictions, gaps and question lists.
• Hard editing while preserving the author's tone.
• Analysing CSV/XLSX data and preparing verifiable tables and charts.
• Creating DOCX reports, PPTX presentations or PDF outputs.
• Long-term project work with codebases and technical documents.

"Long context" does not mean uploading many documents and everything being understood correctly by default. Anthropic's upload rules show up to 20 files per conversation and a 30 MB cap per file; visual reading of PDFs depends on the model and page count. Scans, complex tables and footnotes must still be checked separately.

How to test ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude in 30 minutes

Giving three tools three different tasks and comparing the results is not a valid test. You need the same input, the same instructions, the same time and the same scoring table. The trial below is not for setting records; it is for seeing the friction in your daily work.

1. 1. Pick a safe sample from your own work

   Prepare a two-page document scrubbed of confidential data, an open web topic and a 300-word Azerbaijani text. Give every tool the same file.

2. 2. Write the same task

   Give a measurable requirement like: "Extract the three key decisions, two contradictions and five unanswered questions from the document. Give the page each finding belongs to. Do not invent information you cannot find."

3. 3. Add a sourced question

   Choose a topic that may have changed in the last 30 days. Demand official sources only, exact dates and a link next to each claim. Then open every link yourself.

4. 4. Have it edit Azerbaijani

   Plant suffix, punctuation, awkward-translation and meaning problems into the same text. Require not just "fix it" but the reason for each change made.

5. 5. Run one correction cycle

   Point at a specific error in the first answer. If the tool breaks previously correct parts while fixing that error, note it separately.

6. 6. Measure time and the final product

   In how many minutes did you get a usable result? How much hand-editing did you do? The choice should follow from the work up to the accepted final result, not the model's first answer.

Do not run the test once and decide forever. As core features and models change, a short repeat with the same five criteria three months later is enough. Old reputation is no substitute for current results.

How do free plans and privacy choices differ?

All three services have free access, but message, model, search, file and deep-research limits are not the same. Limits can also vary with demand and region. For a purchase decision, use the plan page visible in your own account, not a third-party table.

OpenAI discloses the setting to stop content from consumer services being used for training, and that Business/Enterprise/API products do not use data for training by default. For company documents, a personal Plus account and a contracted business product cannot be treated as the same thing.

The Gemini Privacy Hub states that with Keep Activity off, future conversations are not used for training but are retained for 72 hours for service and safety purposes. If you submit feedback, that feedback and the related context can be used separately.

According to Anthropic's privacy documentation, on a personal account the use of conversations and coding sessions for model improvement can be controlled from settings. Commercial products follow separate rules.
